Store Bay

The beach right behind the airport, at the south-west tip of the island. Most boats to Buccoo Reef leave from here, and behind the sand people are cooking.

Behind the beach the food huts stand in a row. One is called Miss Jean's, and among the dishes is crab and dumpling. At the water's edge wait the glass-bottom boats. Store Bay is a two-minute walk from the airport, says Rough Guides, and there is no entry fee. Only the toilets and showers cost a small charge, according to discovertnt.

Usually the water is calm and clear. In rough seas bigger waves roll in. Lifeguards watch over a flagged area, as the tourism agency, discovertnt and Rough Guides describe it. Wikivoyage compares it with Pigeon Point: bigger waves, firmer sand, less seaweed. In July 2025, though, the sea washed unusual amounts of sargassum onto the western beaches within 36 hours, Store Bay among them; they stayed open all the same. There is hardly any shade, and beach vendors can be pushy.

The beach facility is due to be rebuilt. In July 2024 the THA met stakeholders, amid rumours of a large pool and the name "Store Bay Beach Club". In September 2024 the THA denied evicting vendors. In January 2025 tourism secretary Tashia Burris announced a second design, with construction by the Eco-Industrial Development Company of Tobago planned to start in July 2025. In August 2025 the facility was still at the planning stage. Ask locally how far the rebuild has got and whether the food huts are still in their place.
