Pigeon Point

The south-west tip of the island, a few minutes' walk past Store Bay. The beach lies inside a park, and its jetty is a landmark of Tobago.

Red buoys draw a line through the shallow water. Beyond them the glass-bottom boats head out towards the reef, and at the end of the beach stands the jetty with its thatched roof. Pigeon Point is not a free beach: it belongs to the Pigeon Point Heritage Park, which charges admission. The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) took over the grounds in 2005, for 106 million Trinidad and Tobago dollars according to Wikipedia.

The water is calm and shallow, the bottom slopes gently. Buccoo Reef offshore keeps the waves out. Swim only inside the red buoys, because the boat channel runs outside them. The tourism agency and discovertnt both mention lifeguards. On cruise ship days it gets crowded, says Rough Guides, and some visitors complain about hotel waste water. The oil spill on the south coast in early February 2024 left Pigeon Point untouched, according to the tourism agency (March 2024); in July 2025 the beach had to be cleared of sargassum.

Figures for the entry fee vary. In 2010 it was TT$18, as of May 2022 the tourism agency gave TT$20, and children aged 6 to 12 pay half according to Wikipedia, under 6 nothing. Wikivoyage gives TT$80 on one page in 2026 and TT$18 before 5pm on another, both without a source, while also stating that all beaches on the island are free. Rough Guides calls Pigeon Point the only beach in Tobago with an entry fee. Among locals and fishermen the charge is disputed.
