Bacolet Bay

A bay on the Atlantic coast by Scarborough, right below Fort King George. What colour the sand is depends on whom you read.

From the road a flight of steps leads down to the beach. Fort King George sits on the hill above. Down on the sand a beach bar sells drinks and snacks. A reef lies off Bacolet Bay and usually makes for good swimming, according to Rough Guides. That does not make the bay tame.

Rough Guides warns of an occasionally dangerous undertow and rough seas in winter. discovertnt calls the water choppy, with currents further out, and mentions surfers. On the sand the two disagree. For discovertnt Bacolet is a black-sand beach, for Rough Guides the sand is yellow. The oil spill of early February 2024 left the coast from Bacolet eastwards untouched, the tourism agency reported in March 2024.
