2008 PANO-BYTES PANORAMA THIS EARLY Panorama 2008 arrives with the usual seasonal TT flavor of total chaos. The prime agent for the upset being directed to an adamant Ministry that controls the sad thing that is our reconstituted National Steel Orchestra (NSO), jerkily administered replete with its stilted inherited inadequacies of form and focus; all now due for an overhaul, but perhaps now also very badly timed in action, as part of its overdue implementation. The NSO has been directed, no excuses accepted, to a 3 day Toco retreat on the very day that should have been the beginning of the scheduled TT National Panorama 2008 Preliminary panyard adjudications. The current NSO's strength, weakness and flawed dependency-profile is inherent in its illustrious membership, personalities it has itself aspired to create; comprising key players, captains, aspirant arrangers and other prime movers, taken from the ranks of about a dozen of TT's Panorama steelbands. Without these members, Pan Trinbago has deemed that the respective Panorama bands would not be able to adequately function in the competition, scheduled to have started on Monday, 7th January. With the gravel grace of 2 days warning, called off the scheduled start of the 2008 Preliminary rounds in its entirety.   Unmentioned however, partly but not fully consequent on the Christmas' and New Year's hangover with this years early carnival season; is the insidiously growing social crises affecting the 'culture of Pan'; most steelbands were seeing a more than expected shortage of players for the Preliminaries.   The currently quoted Pan Trinbago solution being the reinstitution of the old Zonal Preliminaries, for all categories of the steelbands. An initial startler roumered that the competition would progresses directly to the Finals, without any Semi-Final rounds; but this prooved to be unfounded. All Semi-Finals are scheduled; but have been pushed to dates closer to the Finals.
